For the second straight game, the Wright State softball team rallied in its final at bat to pull out a win as a Kristen Farley two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh gave the Raiders an 8-7 win over IUPUI Tuesday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field.
The Jaguars scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but WSU answered with two in its half of the frame. Jherica Williams led off with a double down the left field line, stole third and scored on an infield hit by Briauna Birl. A Bradshaw ground out advanced Birl to third and she came in as Allison Cox grounded out to second.
Wright State extended the lead to 4-1 in the third as the Raiders took advantage of two IUPUI errors in scoring twice.
IUPUI tied the game with one in the fourth and two in the fifth, only see WSU go back in front with a pair of its own in the fifth. Williams singled, stole second and was safe at third on a fielder's choice play off the bat of Birl, putting runners at the corners. Birl stole second and Bradshaw's chopper was thrown home by the shortstop with no advance by Williams, loading the bases. A comebacker by Cox got by the pitcher as Williams scored and Birl came in on a Farley sacrifice fly to center.
The Jaguars, however, drew to within one with a tally in the sixth and Jenna Crockett's two-run home to center in the seventh put IUPUI up 7-6.
That set the stage for the bottom of the seventh as after Bradshaw led off with a walk and went to second on a Cox ground out, Farley drove a 0-1 pitch over the center field fence for the game-winner.
Both Williams and Birl had two hits along with three runs scored to pace the Raider offense while Jamie Perkins also had two hits and Farley drove in three runs.
The scheduled second game of the doubleheader was called in the bottom of the third inning due to lightning with the Raiders leading 1-0 on a first-inning sacrifice fly by Bradshaw.
Wright State, now 13-16 on the season, is right back in action on Wednesday, April 4, as the Raiders host Eastern Kentucky for a 2:00 twinbill.
