Softball Drops Pair at Loyola

The Wright State softball team found the offense hard to come by Friday afternoon as the Raiders dropped a pair of road games to Horizon League leader Loyola, falling to the Ramblers 4-0 in the opener and 3-2 in nine innings in the nightcap.
Wright State had seven hits in the first game, including two each from Jherica Williams and Kristen Farley, but could not push across a run as the Raiders stranded 10 runners on base. Loyola tallied single runs in the first and second and two more in the third to round out the scoring.
WSU scored its first run of the day in the third inning of game two as Malerie Klingler walked, stole second with two outs and eventually scored on two wild pitches from Rambler starter Amy Solava.
It stayed that way until Loyola tied the game in the sixth on a two-out single by Ashley Mitchell, who had six hits on the day altogether, that knocked in Tara Miller.
The Raiders went back in front in the eighth as Williams reached on an error with one out, stole second and scored on a Kristen Bradshaw single, but Loyola (9-12, 5-0 Horizon) answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame and won the game an inning later as Kat Krause led off with a home run to left.
Jamie Perkins (6-11) was the tough-luck loser for WSU as she struck out nine over eight innings.
Wright State, now 14-19 overall and 1-4 in the Horizon League, wraps up the three-game set with Loyola Saturday with a single game at 1:00 Eastern.
