Alisha Kimbro recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs and added seven block assists for the Wright State volleyball team Saturday, but it wasn't enough as Milwaukee maintained its lead on the Horizon League standings with a 30-25, 30-23, 30-25 decision at the Klotsche Center.
WSU scored three straight points, including kills from Becca Awaa and Jessica Woods, to go up 13-11 in the first game and a later Kimbro kill made it 16-15. The Panthers, though, regained the lead for good on kills by Natalie Schmitting and Becky Peters and eventually broke the game open with four straight points, two on kills from Maddie Sueppel and Leanne Felsing.
Milwaukee then jumped out to an 11-3 lead in taking game two and had the advantage for much of the early going in the third game until the Raiders closed the margin to 16-15 following kills from Kimbro and Lizzy Gunn.
Wright State kept close and trailed just 20-18 following a Tara Geegan kill, but UWM tacked on three straight points, two on a kill and service ace by Felsing, and had another 3-0 streak to go up 27-21.
The Raiders had a 9-4 block edge for the match, but the Panthers held a 60-43 kill advantage for the match and outhit the Raiders .250-.155.
Along with Kimbro's double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs, Geegan and Gunn each had seven kills and Woods six kills and 17 digs. Awaa had 11 digs and Lexi Leonhard 10 while Lindsey Frank had 36 assists and eight digs.
Schmitting had 19 kills and hit .760 to pace Milwaukee (13-1, 4-0 Horizon), while Jamie Gabrielson posted a double-double of 14 kills and 17 digs. Felsing had a near triple-double of 44 assists, 10 digs and nine kills.
Wright State, now 4-11 overall and 2-2 in the Horizon League, heads to Xavier for a nonconference match Tuesday, September 25, at 7:00 before returning home to host League newcomer Valparaiso on Friday, September 28, also at 7:00.
