The Wright State volleyball team hit .328 on the night as the Raiders posted an impressive three-game sweep over the Xavier Musketeers Tuesday night at the Cintas Center, winning 30-20, 30-20, 30-27.
WSU erased an early 3-1 deficit in game one with a 10-4 run, half of those coming on two kills each from Alisha Kimbro and Samantha Connor along with an ace by Connor. The Raiders gradually built on the lead from there and closed out the game in strong fashion by scoring eight of the final 11 points.
That momentum carried into the second game as Wright State jumped out to a 13-1 lead, including four more Connor kills. WSU maintained at least an eight-point margin the rest of the way as the Raiders hit .469 for the game with 17 kills.
Game three, though, was much closer as it featured 16 ties and six lead changes. Five straight points put Xavier up 23-20, but a pair of Lizzy Gunn blocks and a ball handling error allowed Wright State to tie the game.
The Musketeers went back up by one on four different occasions, only to see WSU tie it each time, the final time at 27 on a Lindsey Frank kill. Connor followed with an ace to give Wright State the lead for good and the Raiders capped off the match-clinching 4-0 run on kills by Tara Geegan and Connor.
Wright State finished with just a slight 49-44 edge in kills, but outhit Xavier .328-.183 for the match, including a .400-.171 differential over the first two games.
A pair of Raider seniors hit over .500 on the night as Geegan recorded 10 kills with no errors in 18 attempts to hit .556 while Connor had 12 kills and just one error in hitting .524. Connor also finished with a double-double as she tallied 13 digs.
Kimbro added 10 kills and seven digs for WSU while Lizzy Gunn had eight kills and six blocks, setter Lindsey Frank 37 assists and 12 digs and libero Lexi Leonhard 13 digs.
Jill Quayle led the way for Xavier (11-6) with 12 kills.
Wright State, now 5-11 on the season, returns to Horizon League play Friday night at 7:00 as the Raiders host League newcomer Valparaiso.
