Junior Braden Fleak tallied both goals for the Wright State men's soccer team on Saturday evening at Alumni Field, as the Raiders claimed a 2-0 Horizon League victory over Detroit.
Fleak got the Raiders on the board in the 33rd minute when he connected on a header from 15 yards out. The play was set up by Jordan Haggit, who sent a crossing pass into the box from the left flank that Fleak headed home, to give him his second assist on the season.
The Raiders outshot Detroit (2-8-1, 1-3-1 Horizon) 6-1 in the first half and held the 1-0 lead at the break.
Fleak struck again in the second half when the UDM keeper was called for a foul in the 18-yard box and awarded WSU a penalty kick. Fleak converted on the PK with a shot to the lower right corner for his seventh tally of the 2008 season.
Matt Koewler made one save in the match to post his first shutout of the season and help WSU improve to 3-8-1 overall and 2-1-1 in Horizon League play.
The Raiders held a 14-4 advantage in shots, while Detroit took seven corner kicks to two for WSU. The Raiders also scored multiple goals for the third time this season to claim the victory. WSU was whistled for seven offside infractions in the match.
The Raiders will take to the road for a match against nationally ranked Akron on Wednesday, October 15 at Akron. The Green and Gold will take to the pitch against the Zips at 7:30.
