The Wright State men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 Horizon League contest to Loyola on Friday evening at Alumni Field. The Raiders held the early momentum, but an early second half goal by the Ramblers accounted for the difference.
In the first half, the Raiders held the advantage in shots as LU goalkeeper Brian Byrne made four saves in the first 45-minutes.
The Ramblers tallied the only goal of the match at the 53:57 mark when Keum Sung Kim teed up a corner kick from the right flank. Kim sent the ball hurling towards the net and it found the foot of Mark Halma who tapped the ball into the net from three yards out.
The Raiders would push back on the offensive and nearly equal the LU score when Adam Harp?sent a long throw-in towards the net. The first touch glanced off the head of Josh Zimmerlin and then Braden Fleak directed it towards the net, where the LU keeper made a diving stop.
In the match, the Raiders held a 13-8 advantage in shots, but the LU keeper made six saves. Loyola took five corner kicks to four for the Raiders.
The Green and Gold fall to 2-8 overall on the season and are now 1-1 in Horizon League play. WSU will now face off with nationally-ranked UIC on Sunday afternoon starting at 3:30. The Wright State women's team will take to the field prior to that match against Milwaukee starting at 1:00
