Behind a Sharon Palma one-hit shutout, Wright State defeated Cleveland State 4-0 in the final game of their Horizon League weekend series Sunday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field.
The game was scoreless until the Raiders scored twice in the top of the fourth. With one out, Jherica Williams reached on an error and Kristen Bradshaw followed with a two-run home run to left, her fourth of the season.
WSU added two more runs in the sixth. Louie Haney started the frame with a triple to center and scored on a Williams double to left center. After Williams advanced to third on an Allison Cox grounder, she scored as Bradshaw reached on an error.
Palma issued a walk in the first to Whitney Willard, but that runner was erased as Christa Coppus lined into a double play. Willard singled in the fourth and reached on a wild pitch following a strikeout in the sixth, but that would be the only Viking baserunners until the seventh.
Cleveland State (12-6, 2-1 Horizon) had its first two batters reach on walks in the seventh, but Palma preserved the shutout with a strikeout and a pair of ground outs.
Overall, Palma (7-6) struck out five in throwing the one-hitter while walking three.
Wright State, now 12-15 overall and 2-2 in the Horizon League, hosts Ball State in a doubleheader Wednesday starting at 3:00.
