Like they did Friday, the Wright State softball team split its games Saturday to wrap up play at the UNM Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico, pulling out a wild 8-7 win over Georgetown before falling 8-4 to host New Mexico.
Georgetown used a three-run first inning home run to open the scoring, only to see the Raiders answer with the long ball in the bottom of the frame as Allison Cox hit a two-run home run to left center.
Wright State then went in front with three more in the second, again using the long ball as Jamie Perkins had a solo shot to center and, after Louie Haney reached on an infield hit, Jherica Williams homered to left to make it 5-3.
The Hoyas picked up a run in the third, but WSU matched that in its half of the inning as Kristen Bradshaw was hit by a pitch, stole second and came in on a Justine Shilt hit to right.
Georgetown regained the lead at 7-6 with three in the fifth, but the Raiders would post one final rally in the sixth to pull out the win. Michelle Logan reached on an error and after Briauna Birl had an infield hit, Perkins sacrifice both into scoring position.
That brought Haney to the plate and she plated both Logan and Birl with a double to left.
Georgetown (6-18) had two runners on base in the seventh, but Perkins (1-2) held on for her first win of the season by inducing a ground out to end the game.
Haney was a perfect four-for-four to pace the Raider offense while Williams had two hits.
The second game again saw Wright State fall behind 3-0 after an inning, but the Raiders scored a run in the second as Bridget Henry doubled and Logan tripled down the left field line.
New Mexico (13-5), though, broke the game open with five in the bottom of the third.
The Raiders rounded out the scoring in the third on a two-run Williams double and a Bradshaw RBI single.
Williams went three-for-three against the Lobos while Henry and Logan each had two hits.
Wright State, now 7-12 on the season, is off until opening the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, March 20, with a 3:00 doubleheader against Findlay.
