The Wright State men's soccer team allowed an early goal in their match against crosstown rival Dayton on Sunday afternoon and couldn't recover, falling 1-0 to the Flyers. WSU held the edge in shots and played the final 28 minutes with a one-man advantage, but couldn't sneak the equalizer into the back of the net.
UD tallied their goal at the 12:57 mark when Jack Pearson headed in the lone tally of match off of a service into the box from teammate Sonny Renner. It was Pearson's first tally of the season and was the only shot that the Flyers recorded on goal in the match.
The Raiders would pound out 13 shots to eight for the Flyers, with four of those shots requiring UD keeper Alex Davis to make a save and another glancing off the crossbar.
WSU took seven corner kicks to six for Dayton and the Raiders played the final 27:16 with a one man advantage after a UD red card forced the Flyers to lose a field player.
Senior Josh Grossman and junior Braden Fleak were each named to the All-Tournament team for the 2008 Flyer Marriot Classic.
The Raiders fall to 0-2 overall on the season and will play in their second in-season tournament starting on Friday, September 5. The Green and Gold will travel to Buffalo, New York, to square off with the University of Buffalo on Friday starting at 7:00.
