
Women Win at Detroit

Wright State shot 45 percent in the second half and 42 percent overall as the Raiders pulled away in the second half for a 63-50 win over the Detroit Titans in Horizon League women's basketball action at Calihan Hall Saturday afternoon.
Neither team had more than a four-point lead for most of the first half, with Detroit going up 18-17 on a Lauren Allen layup with 2:33 remaining. Maria Bennett, though, put WSU back front to stay with a three and after the Titans tied it at 22 on another Allen basket at the 1:35, Bennett answered with a three and jumper to put the Raiders up 27-22 at the break.
Detroit shot 42 percent over the opening 20 minutes compared to 39 percent for Wright State, but the Raiders were four of 11 from behind the arc while the Titans missed all three of their three-point attempts.
An 11-1 run, four of those coming from Ta-myra Davis, extended the WSU lead to 38-25 at the 14:34 into the second half, only to see an Allen jumper trim the deficit to 42-35 with 8:36 remaining.
Wright State, though, responded with a 17-7 burst over the next six minutes, nine by Shey Peddy, to take its largest lead of the game at 59-42 and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
The Raiders shot 42 percent overall compared to 39 percent for the Titans and WSU held the edge in rebounds (39-33), points in the paint (34-28) and second-chance points (14-10).
Davis tied a career high with 19 points for Wright State, 12 coming in the second half, while Peddy had 18, all but three after halftime. Bennett added 10 points off the bench.
Allen led Detroit (9-18, 5-11 Horizon) with 17 off the bench while Sandi Brown had 10.
Wright State (12-15, 8-8 Horizon) wraps up the regular season with a pair of home games next week, starting on Thursday, March 5, with a 7:00 matchup against Loyola.
