Raiders Win Season Opener Against East Carolina

The Wright State volleyball team opened the 2009 campaign with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over East Carolina at the Third Degree Sportswear Invitational hosted by VCU Friday morning. WSU dropped the first two games 25-23 and 25-20 before winning three straight 25-18, 28-26, 15-10.
All-Horizon League player Shaunda Sandifer led the Raiders as the junior collected 18 kills en route to a .556 hitting percentage. Senior Becca Awaa also helped in the win with 19 kills and three service aces while senior Lexi Leonhard posted a double-double of 13 kills and 17 digs. Michelle Hammond tallied 32 assists while Stefanie Shiramizu, in her collegiate debut, added 26 digs.
Wright State is back in action Friday evening at 5:00 against Temple before wrapping up the tournament Saturday against host VCU at 12:30.
