
Volleyball Takes Second at Third Degree Sportswear Invitational

The Wright State volleyball team took second place at the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational Saturday as they dropped their lone match of the day to host and eventual champion VCU 24-26, 25-21 25-20, 25-18.
Senior opposite hitter Becca Awaa and junior middle blocker Shaunda Sandifer were each named to the All-Tournament team. Awaa collected 38 kills, four service aces and 28 digs in the tournament while Sandifer had 47 total kills and hit .449 for the weekend.
Sandifer capped an excellent tournament with 16 more kills and a hitting percentage of .560 against VCU. Jessica Woods added 13 kills while Awaa added 10. Tina Paunicka added a double-double of 30 assists and 11 digs and Stefanie Shiramizu registered a match-high 27 digs. Three other Raiders collected double figures in digs.
As a team, the Raiders hit .193 overall, including .242 in game four as the lead changed hands 14 times during the match.
WSU is now 2-1 on the season and will play next weekend in the Golden Grizzly Invitational hosted by Oakland University.
