Chris Muse, a freshman from nearby Wayne High School in Huber Heights, recently joined the Wright State golf team.
In his own words:
Q: How has golf affected your life?
A: It has made me have a lot of patience I feel. It has made me also have a respect for more people.
Q: What first got you started playing golf?
A: I went with a friend in 8th grade, and kept playing after I hit a couple of good shots.
Q: What role models did you have growing up that helped you progress in your sport?
A: My main role model was my dad. However, I also looked up to the professional golfer, Fred Couples because of the way he was able to stay calm while in a match.
Q: What memories, good or bad, do you have of playing your sport?
A: A good memory that I have was when I won my first tournament as a sophomore in high school. A bad memory I still recall was in the summer. I was in a match, and I gave a stroke up in the final hole and lost in a playoff.
Q: What kind of awards have you received in golf, whether it be in high school or college?
A: I was my high school's most improved golfer between my freshman and sophomore years.
Q: What kind of successes have you had while playing golf?
A: Well, I have won tournaments and also golf has made me able to play at Wright State.
Q: Have you faced any struggles while playing golf in your life and if so what are they?
A: In matches, I get mad and upset when I was not playing well, but I have learned that I have to get over it really fast and keep playing well.
Q: How has your family supported you as you have grown into the athlete you are today?
A: My family usually goes to most tournaments. Plus they help me out with whatever, very supportive of me.
Q: What is your family background?
A: My dad was in the Air Force for 22 years. However, now he is retired, and while he was an officer he met my mom when he was stationed in Korea.
Q: How do you view yourself as an athlete and how do you feel others view you?
A: I do not see myself as perfect, but I am able to play other sports other than golf. I also feel, as with sports, I am able to catch on pretty quick.
Q: What is one word that you would relate to yourself in connection with how you play golf and the kind of athlete you are?
A: Suspenseful
Q: Is there any advice you would give to any upcoming college athletes?
A: Just practice and work hard. College sports are all about practice and dedication.
