The Wright State softball team fell twice in day two of the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas, Saturday, dropping a 2-0 decision to Utah State and 7-3 to North Dakota State.
Utah State scored a run in the second and the Aggies picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. The Raiders outhit Utah State 7-6, but could not string any offense together.
For the second straight day, Melanie Heyne pitched well enough to win, but came up on the short end despite striking out four in a complete-game effort. Offensively, Kristen Bradshaw and China Frost each had two hits.
Against North Dakota State, the Bison scored six in the top of the first, but Wright State responded with two in its half of the frame. Kristen Bradshaw and Louie Haney both singled and Justine Shilt walked to load the bases with one out. An illegal pitch resulted in the first run and a fielder's choice play off the bat of Malerie Klingler plated the second run.
NDSU, however, tallied an unearned run in the second and neither team scored until WSU tacked on an unearned run of its own in the seventh.
Mollie Berry went three-for-three for Raiders while Michelle Baker added two hits. In the circle, Chelsea Contant pitched five scoreless innings in relief, striking out two.
Wright State (6-14) wraps up play at the Aggie Invitational Sunday against Utah State at 11 am.
