With a forecast of rain on Sunday, Wright State and Detroit played their entire three-game series on Saturday at the WSU Softball Field, with the Raiders winning all three in run-rule fashion 13-0, 17-0 and 10-0.
In the first game, WSU scored twice in the first on a double by Jamie Perkins and a Katie Kine single and added three more in the second, the big blow being a solo home run to center off the bat of Perkins.
RBI doubles from Justine Shilt and Kristen Bradshaw along with run-producing singles by Perkins and China Frost highlighted a six-run third and Wright State tacked on two more in the fourth on an Ashley Schramm single and a Frost double.
Sharon Palma (5-7) picked up the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief, striking out two. Offensively, Bradshaw had three hits and three runs scored, Perkins three hits, three runs scored and three RBI and Frost two hits and three RBI.
Perkins knocked in a run to open the scoring in the second game and the lead grew to 4-0 an inning later on a two-run home run to right by Shilt and Briauna Birl scoring on a passed ball. A Shilt two-run double in the third made it 6-0 before the Raiders exploded for 11 runs in the fourth, which included a Schramm two-run single and a three-run home run to center by Mollie Berry.
Melanie Heyne (4-7) earned the run by pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Shilt paced the WSU offense with two hits, two runs scored and four RBI while Bradshaw, Malerie Klingler, Kine and Louie Haney each had two hits, with both of Klingler's coming in a pinch-hitting role.
Run-scoring singles by Perkins, Allison Cox and Haney along with a Kine squeeze bunt gave Wright State a 4-0 lead after an inning in the third game and, following a four-run second, Cox rounded out the day with a two-run home run to left in the fourth.
Cox (2-0) allowed just two hits in five innings for the win with two strikeouts.
In all, WSU scored 40 runs and collected 40 hits on the day as the Raiders scored in all but one of the 12 innings they were at the plate.
Wright State (11-15, 3-0 Horizon) returns to action on Wednesday, March 31, with a home doubleheader against crosstown rival Dayton starting at 3:30.
