Softball Drops Pair at Bulldog Classic

The Wright State softball team dropped a pair of games in day two of the Bulldog Classic Saturday in Starkville, Mississippi, falling to Troy 3-2 and host Mississippi State 7-2.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead against Troy with a run in the first as Louie Haney walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on an infield single from China Frost. The Trojans, however, tallied a pair of runs in the third and one more in the fifth to go up 3-1.
WSU cut the deficit to one with a run in the bottom of the fifth on another Frost RBI single, but could not get any closer as the Raiders stranded a runner in each of the final three innings.
Melanie Heyne (1-4) was the tough-luck loser, giving up just four hits and one earned run in a complete-game performance, striking out five and walking none. Offensively, Frost led the way for Wright State with three hits while Haney scored both runs.
Against Mississippi State, the Raiders scored twice in the third on a two-run single by Jamie Perkins, but the Bulldogs posted four runs in the first to take the lead and added two more in the third and one in the fifth.
Perkins and Haney each had two hits in the Mississippi State game.
Wright State (5-10) wraps up play at the Bulldog Classic Sunday against Mississippi Valley State in the consolation game starting at noon Eastern.
