Softball Run-Rules Urbana in Home Finale

The Wright State softball team scored in every inning as the Raiders rolled to an 11-1 decision over the Urbana Blue Knights in the home finale Friday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field.
WSU tallied a run in the first as Louie Haney reached on an error, went to second on China Frost's single to center and scored on Allison Cox's single to left.
The Raiders broke the game open in the second inning by scoring five runs. Jamie Perkins started the inning off with a walk and then stole second. Briauna Birl followed by reaching on a fielder's choice and stole second to put runners on second and third with one out. Kristen Bradshaw then drove both runners in with a double to left to give WSU a 3-0 lead.
Two batters later, Frost hit a single to right field to bring in Bradshaw. Following Frost's hit, Justine Shilt reached base on a walk. WSU's scoring was then capped off when Frost and Shilt each scored on a two-run double by Cox.
WSU added three more runs in the bottom of the third. For the second straight frame, Perkins starting the rally by getting on base, this time with a single to left. She then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Birl and went to third on a wild pitch and trotted home on a fielding error by the Blue Knights as Bradshaw made it to first. Colleen Schneider then recorder her first collegiate hit in a big way as the freshman cracked a two-run homer down the left field line to make it 9-0.
The Raiders extended the margin to 11-0 in the fourth on a RBI double by Katie Kine and a Birl infield single.
While WSU was scoring their runs, senior Sharon Palma (6-8) was nearly flawless in the circle. She pitched all five innings for the Raiders and allowed just one run in the fifth while striking out seven.
Wright State (24-24-1) finishes out the regular season next week with five on the road, starting with a 4:00 doubleheader Tuesday at Miami.
