The Wright State offense was held in check as the Raiders dropped both ends of a doubleheader at the Miami Softball Stadium Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-0 to the RedHawks in the opener and 2-0 in the nightcap.
WSU threatened with two runners on bases in each of the first two innings of game one, but came away empty as the game scoreless until Miami scored twice in the bottom of the fourth. Three Raider errors resulted in four runs in the fifth and the RedHawks rounded out the scoring with two in the sixth.
Miami took a quick 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning of game two and added another run in the fourth while starter Meredith Linch allowed just a walk to Allison Cox over that stretch.
Jamie Perkins collected Wright State's first hit, a single to center, with two out in the fifth and the Raiders posed a threat in the sixth as Briauna Birl and Kristen Bradshaw started the frame with hits and each moved up into scoring position on a Louie Haney bunt. The Raiders came away empty, however, as China Frost lined out to short and Justine Shilt struck out.
WSU then loaded the bases in the seventh on a Cox walk, a Perkins hit to right center and a Birl infield hit, but again came up empty as Bradshaw grounded out to third to end the game.
Mollie Berry had two hits in the opener while Perkins and Birl each had two in the nightcap.
Wright State (24-26-1) closes out the regular season this weekend with a three-game Horizon League series at UIC. The Raiders and Flames, who are tied for second with 14-7 league records, will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 2:00 Eastern followed by a single game on Sunday at 1:00 Dayton time.
