Behind a record-setting performance from Charlie Doll, the Wright State golf team finished fourth at the Marshall Invitational as the final round was played Tuesday at the Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia.
Doll set a new Marshall Invitational and Guyan Golf and Country Club record with a final round of 62 to finish with a three-round score of 202, good for a tie for second place. The 62 is also a new WSU mark for 18 holes, eclipsing the 64 shot by Jesse Hutchins in the third round of the Xavier Provident Invitational on October 15, 2002. Doll was one stroke short of Hutchins' mark of 201 for 54 holes, which also set at the Xavier Provident Invitational.
WSU's team third-round score of 277 ties a school record set at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championships on May 2, 2000 and the 54-hole team score of 844 is a new school record, beating the 850 shot at the 2000 MCC Championships.
Along with Doll's new single round mark, six other Marshall Invitational records were broken during this year's tournament, with those listed below.
Wright State returns to action at the John Piper Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green September 27-28.
