
Volleyball Defeats Youngstown State in Four

Behind double-double efforts from Alaina McAuley and Heidi Splinter, the volleyball team defeated Youngstown State on the road Saturday, winning the match 18-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-19.
YSU used a 6-0 run to erase an 11-10 deficit in the opening set to take control, only to see the Raiders even the match by hitting .481 in the second set on 15 kills. The third set then featured nine ties and six lead changes before Wright State won in on a McAuley kill and a block from Dani Branco and Mariah Nussbaum.
The final set was like the third with eight ties and five lead changes until WSU pulled away with four straight to go up 23-17, the final two coming on a pair of Nussbaum aces.
WSU finished with just four more kills on the day (49-45), but outhit the Penguins .219-.122 and had a 9-3 edge in blocks.
McAuley hit .324 in posting a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs while Splinter had one as well of 11 kills and 14 digs. Ashley Langjahr added nine kills and Nussbaum came off te bench to chip in six kills in hitting .455. Aimee Schubert dished out 39 assists and Brittany Waddell notched 15 digs.
Wright State (3-19, 2-8 Horizon) wraps up the nonleague portion of its schedule on Tuesday, October 18, with a crosstown trip to Dayton. First serve is 7:00.
