
Volleyball Sweeps UIC

Heidi Splinter and Ashley Langjahr each had double figures in kills and the volleyball team hit .261 overall as the Raiders swept UIC Friday night at the McLin Gymnasium, winning 25-16, 25-16, 25-23.
WSU came out on fire, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set and extended the lead to 10-2 following a kill and block from Dani Bronco. UIC cut the deficit to 10-5, but could get no closer as the Raiders answered with four straight, two coming on a pair of Anna Norman kills.
The Wright State advantage was just 16-13 in the second set before the Raiders closed it out with a 9-3 run, four as a result of Splinter kills.
UIC (14-10, 7-5 Horizon) took its first lead of the night at 2-1 in the third set and led 17-15 before Branco tied it at 18 with a kill. The Flames regained the edge with a Kelsey Safranek kill, only to see WSU follow with four straight to go back in front to stay, the final two on slams by Langjahr. UIC closed to within one at 24-23 before Alaina McAuley closed it the match out with a kill.
The Raiders led 42-32 in kills while outhitting the Flames .261-.096.
Splinter posted a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs while Langjahr added 10 kills in hitting .471 and Branco nine as she hit .381. Aimee Schubert chipped in 35 assists while Brittany Waddell had 21 digs.
WSU (4-21, 3-9 Horizon) hosts Valparaiso Saturday at 4:00 in the main arena of the Wright State Nutter Center as part of Howloween Hoopla.
