
Volleyball Falls in Four to Green Bay

Despite double-double efforts from Heidi Splinter and Dani Branco, the Wright State volleyball team came out on the short end of a four-set Horizon League match against Green Bay Saturday. The Phoenix won the match 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-15.
The opening set had eight lead changes and was tied 14 times, the final at 23 following a Raider service error. WSU, however, bounced back and took the set by scoring the last two points on kills by Ashley Langjahr and Branco.
Wright State only trailed 10-8 in the second set before Green Bay gradually pulled away and the Phoenix scored 11 consecutive points in the third set to break an 11-11 deadlock. Green Bay then jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the final set and led the rest of the way.
Green Bay (8-11, 4-3 Horizon) held a 50-42 kill advantage and outhit WSU .259-.087.
Splinter posted a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs for the Raiders while Branco had a double-double as well of 13 kills and 10 digs. Aimee Schubert added 35 assists and 12 digs and Jessica Levy chipped in 13 digs.
Abbey Gitter hit .481 with 13 kills to pace the Phoenix while Lyndsay Zabkowicz recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 15 digs.
Wright State (2-17, 1-6 Horizon) wraps up the first round of Horizon League play on Sunday with a 2:00 home matchup with Loyola.
