The Wright State women's basketball team scored five of the game's final six points to pull out a 61-59 win over Southern Illinois Saturday at WSU's Nutter Center.
A Courtney Boyd three from the left corner gave the Raiders a 12-10 lead before the Salukis followed with an 11-0 burst, including two threes from Teri Oliver and one by Antishia Wright, to build a nine-point advantage midway through the first half.
Wright State, however, closed the period with a 23-7 run, eight of those coming from Molly Fox, to take a 35-28 halftime lead.
Another 11-0 SIU run to start the second half put the Salukis up four, but WSU answered with 11 straight of its own, six by Fox, to again lead by seven at 48-41 with 10 minutes to play.
The margin was still seven until the Salukis went on a 9-1 run, capped off by a Jordyn Courier three, to go back in front. Oliver then made one of two at the foul line to make it 58-56 with 1:52 left.
A Kim Demmings three-point play, though put the Raiders up for good and another basket by the freshman guard made it 61-58 with 1:21 remaining.
Cartaesha Macklin hit one of two free throws at the 42.6-second mark to make it a two-point game and Southern Illinois had two final chances in the closing seconds, but a three attempt by Wright from the right wing went long and Fox gathered in the defensive rebound as time expired.
WSU shot 36 percent for the game and was 16 of 23 from the line while SIU shot 32 percent and was 16 of 28 at the stripe, but just eight of 18 in the second half. The Raiders finished with a 47-39 rebounding advantage and led 14-8 in second-chance points.
Fox posted a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds in 20 minutes coming off the bench to lead the Raiders while Demmings added 18.
Oliver paced all scorers with 26 for Southern Illinois (3-5), 16 in the first half, while Macklin had 11 and Brooke LeMar 10.
Wright State (5-3) plays its final nonleague regular-season road game on Tuesday, December 13, as the Raiders head to Millett Hall for a 7:00 game against the Miami RedHawks.
