
Volleyball Falls at UIC

The Wright State volleyball team fell in three sets at UIC Friday by the scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.
WSU led 8-5 in the opening set following a Heidi Splinter kill and closed to within one at 16-15 on an Ashley Langjahr service ace, only to see the Flames score the next six of the next seven points to take control.
The two teams were then tied nine ties in the second set, the final time at 18-18, before UIC went in front to stay with five consecutive points.
The Raiders led 19-13 in the third set until the Flames went on an 11-3 run to go up 24-22. A Stephanie Ruffing kill drew WSU to within one before UIC closed out the match on a Sara Sternard kill.
UIC led 43-33 in kills and outhit Wright State .193-.159.
Ellen Senf paced the Raiders with nine kills while Ruffing had eight kills and Splinter seven. Miranda Puthoff had 28 assists and eight digs and Alana Smith tallied 15 digs.
Wright State (6-18, 0-6 Horizon) closes out the first round of league play Saturday at Valparaiso starting at 5:00 Eastern.
