
Volleyball Falls at Valparaiso

The Wright State volleyball team closed out the first round of Horizon League play Saturday with a three-set setback at Valparaiso, falling to the Crusaders 25-16, 25-18, 25-22.
Valparaiso jumped out to an 11-4 lead in taking the first set, but the Raiders hung close in the second, only trailing 16-14 following a Haley Garr kill before the Crusaders gradually pulled away.
Down 13-7 in the third, WSU rallied to tie it at 18 until Valpo followed with four straight to regain the advantage. The Raiders closed to within one on two occasions down the stretch, the final at 23-22 on a Heidi Splinter kill, only to see the Crusaders close out the match by scoring the last two points.
Valparaiso finished with a 38-30 kill advantage, outhit WSU .187-.133 and had a 7-1 edge in service aces.
Splinter posted her seventh double-double of the season as she had 12 kills with 11 digs in hitting .379 for the match. Miranda Puthoff had a double-double of 24 assists and 10 digs.
Wright State (6-19, 0-7 Horizon) hosts league-leading Milwaukee on Friday, October 25, at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium starting at 7:00.
