An AJ Paterson goal tied the match midway through the second half for the Wright State men's soccer team, but UIC regained the lead in the 73rd minute and went on to a 2-1 decision in Horizon League action Saturday afternoon in Chicago.
After a scoreless first half, the Flames broke the deadlock at the 51:33 mark of the second half as Thomas Villamil tallied a goal off a corner kick.
It stayed that way until Paterson tied the score at the 64:34 mark with his second goal of the season. Jackson Dietrich passed to the top of the box to Paterson, who sent it to the top right corner of the goal. It was the sixth assist of the year for Dietrich.
UIC, however, regained the advantage at the 72:51 mark as Manny Chavez scored a goal off a rebound.
The Flames led 17-10 in shots, including 9-4 in shots on goal, and had a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer recorded seven saves for the Raiders.
Wright State (6-3-1, 1-2-1 Horizon) hosts Valparaiso as part of Homecoming on Saturday, October 10, at 7:00 at Alumni Field.
