Softball Splits in Day One of Hoosier Classic

The Wright State softball team split a pair of games Saturday at the Hoosier Classic, defeating IPFW 16-4 before falling to host Indiana 7-2.
WSU scored an unearned run in the first before adding four more on in the second. Hanna Floyd led off with a double and scored as Becka Peterson clubbed a two-run home run to left, her first of the season. The third run came in as Alexis Mayle walked and pinch-runner Ashton Salyers later scored on an error and Jess Gorman knocked in the final run with a ground out.
IPFW cut the deficit to one with four in the third and it stayed that way until the Raiders tallied a run in the fifth on Libby Pfeffer's home run to left center, her fifth of the season, and another in the sixth on a Gorman double to left center.
Wright State then broke the game open with a nine-run seventh. Gorman had a two-run double, Pfeffer a two-run triple and Floyd a two-run home run, her first of the season, to highlight the frame.
Pfeffer and Floyd each had three hits to pace the WSU offense while Gorman and Peterson had two. Gorman drove in four and Pfeffer three while Pfeffer and Floyd each scored three times.
The Raiders carried that momentum into the second game of the day, taking a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second. Doubles by Reagan Stofcheck and Angie Clark resulted in a run and the second scored as Clark came in on a wild pitch.
Indiana, however, answered with three in the bottom of the second, added three more in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Wright State (2-15) wraps up tournament play on Sunday with two more games, taking on North Dakota State at 12:15 followed by Bowling Green at 2:30.
