The Wright State softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Marshall Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Herd 3-2 in the opener and 11-2 in the nightcap.
The Thundering Herd led 2-0 in the first game, scoring single runs in the first and fourth, only to see the Raiders tie it in the fifth. With one out, Macey Gunther singled through the left side of the inside and Jess Gorman followed with her fifth home run of the season, a two-run opposite field shot to left.
WSU threatened in the sixth and seventh, but stranded two runners in each frame, keeping the game tied heading into the bottom of the seventh, when Marshall claimed the victory by scoring an unearned run.
Gorman finished a perfect three-for-three to lead the way for Wright State while Gunther added two hits.
In the second game, it was the Raiders that took the early lead, tallying two runs in the first on an error and a wild pitch.
From there, however, it was all Marshall as the Thundering Herd answered with five in the bottom of the first, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.
Wright State (7-23) hosts crosstown rival Dayton in a single game Wednesday at the WSU Softball Field starting at 5:30.
