Sophomore outside hitter Katie Klusman of the volleyball team has been selected as the Wright State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Athlete of the Month for the period of August 21-September 2, it was announced at their monthly meeting Thursday.
Klusman (Cincinnati, OH/Mother of Mercy) hit .327 with 49 kills and 26 digs last weekend as the Raiders won the Holiday Inn Classic at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. Named to the all-tournament team, she hit .380 with 27 kills and 12 digs in a 3-1 decision over Niagara on Friday. The 27 kills were the most by a WSU player in a match since Alisha Kimbro also had 27 against Loyola on November 2, 2007.
Klusman then posted another double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs as the Raiders swept Tennessee Tech on Saturday and had nine kills in the championship match versus Evansville as Wright State again recorded a 3-0 sweep.
The tournament title was the first for Wright State since taking the Golden Grizzly Invitational crown September 5-6, 2009, in Rochester, Michigan. The Raiders defeated host Oakland, Canisius and North Texas in that tournament. It is also the first 3-0 start for WSU in a season since winning against Eastern Illinois, Montana and Central Michigan to begin the 2001 campaign.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee holds a monthly meeting of Wright State team captains from all 16 sports along with athletic administration to discuss issues and concerns.
