4/24/2016 4:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
The Wright State golf team finished third as the final round of the Horizon League Championships was played Sunday at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Ryan Wenzler won the tournament with a three-round score of 211, becoming the first Raider to earn medalist honors at the league championship since Brandon Knutson won with a 210 at the 2006 championship in Carmel, Indiana. With his first-place finish, the junior also was named to the league's All-Tournament Team.
It is the second straight tournament win for Wenzler and the third title this season (NKU Collegiate Classic, Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational). Wenzler becomes the first WSU player to win three tournaments in a year since Frank Lickliter did so in 1989-90.
As the Horizon League medalist, Wenzler will receive an automatic bid into an NCAA Regional. The selection show is scheduled to be televised on May 5 at 9:30 am on the Golf Channel with the regionals set for May 16-18 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; Kohler, Wisconsin; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Nashville, Tennessee.
