Raiders Open League Schedule After ACC Win

UIC and HL Newcomer IUPUI come to the Nutter Center
The Wright State men's basketball team will look to build on a strong non-conference schedule that included an impressive win at Georgia Tech as they host the Horizon League opener against UIC Thursday at 7 pm and IUPUI Saturday at 4 pm.
Wright State Raiders
Wright State is 8-5 overall after a big upset at the ACC's Georgia Tech 85-81 as five Raiders scored in double-figures. The Raiders were led by Grant Benzinger's 22 points as Loudon Love (11 points/12 rebounds) and Justin Mitchell (15 points/10 rebounds) posted double-doubles. The Raiders have won eight of their last ten games and will play the next three on the road, starting at Detroit January 5. The next home game will be January 15 versus Youngstown State at a special start time of 4 pm.
Benzinger leads the Raiders in scoring at 14.2 points per game as Mitchell is averaging 11.5 points. Love now leads the Horizon League with 111 rebounds.
Love was selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the second straight week.

UIC Flames
- UIC, picked third in the pre-season poll, is 5-8 overall, including wins over Delaware State and North Carolina Central. They're 0-5 on the road.
- The Flames have three players averaging double figures: Dikembe Dixson (14.4), Marcus Ottey (12.0), and Dominique Matthews (11.9).Â
- UIC gets almost 75% of its scoring from sophomores. Of the 12 players on the roster, nine are sophomores and freshman.
- Dixson was voted pre-season first team, and Tai Odiase was voted second team.
- Odiase is averaging 8.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocks, which ranks him 14th nationally.Â
- The Flames average a whopping 7.2 blocks/game, as opposed to Wright State's 1.7.
- WSU leads the overall series 29-27, including the last three meetings.Â
- The Raiders will end the regular season at UIC February 25 at 6 pm.
IUPUI Jaguars
- IUPUI is currently 3-8, playing Thursday night at Northern Kentucky before coming to Wright State.Â
- Among their wins this year was Morehead State in late November.Â
- The Jaguars were picked to finish last in the Horizon League pre-season poll.Â
- Three IUPUI players average just over 11.0 points per game: Aaron Brennan (11.8), Ron Patterson (11.6) and TJ Henderson (11.4).Â
- WSU leads the overall series 9-2 but have not met since the 1985-86 season.Â
- The Raiders will play at IUPUI February 23 at 11 am.

- Saturday is Youth Basketball Day. Player autographs will be available after the game in the Raider Pub.
- Also on Saturday, Milano's will once again host a post-game gathering of fans at its Beavercreek location on Fairfield Rd. Assistant coach Brian Cooley will be there to talk to fans and answer questions.
