Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 at Northern Kentucky
9/27/2017 10:02:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Wright State women's soccer team fell 1-0 in a tough conference road game at Northern Kentucky Wednesday night.
First Half Highlights
Much of the half saw a back and forth evenly battled match between the Raiders and the Norse. 31 minutes into the game, the Raiders fouled the Norse in the penalty box, leading to a penalty shot by Emily Soltes. The penalty shot went wide of the goal, continuing the 0-0 tie. Both goalkeepers held strong to finish off the half.
Second Half Highlights
The second half saw much of the same as the first half, a very well-played soccer match between two teams looking for their third conference victory of the season. In the 75th minute, Norse freshman forward Kailey Ivins found senior Jessica Frey in the box. Frey shielded the ball from the Raiders defender, turned to her left and fired a shot into the far left corner of the goal for the only goal of the match. Senior forward Sarah Colvin led the Raiders attack with three shots and sophomore forward Jordyne Helinski with two shots on goal. The Norse finished with four shots on goal compared to three by the Raiders.
Coaches Comments
Head Coach Pat Ferguson felt that "WSU played well, physically battled and at times controlled the match but just made a mistake and one of Northern Kentucky's dangerous players got loose and WSU was punished, but the team will regroup and come back to play well against Milwaukee."
