SAAC holds 2018 Rowdies

The Wright State Student-Athlete Advisory Council hosted the 2018 Rowdies Award Show, which was sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, on Sunday, April 22^nd in the Nutter Center Arena. The Rowdies Award Show is an annual event that recognizes individuals and teams for their outstanding accomplishments throughout the year. The student-athletes create everything for the annual award show from the theme, script, awards, voting, and event décor. This year's hosts were senior volleyball standouts, Megan Hopkins and Jessie Thornton, with the theme of the show set as Hollywood.

The Northwestern Mutual Impact Award was given to senior volleyball player and Biological Sciences Major, Megan Hopkins. The award recognizes the positive impact Megan has made not only on her team, but on the athletic program and the broader Wright State Community. Megan served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years, and served as the President during her senior year. Megan was often seen at many events around campus and was a strong supporter of community service and personal development. The award was presented by Northwestern Mutual Managing Director, Andy Platt, who is a former Wright State golfer and graduate of the Wright State University Raj Soin School of Business.

Former men's basketball player, Ryan Custer, was also in attendance with his parents to receive the Courage Award. The Courage Award is awarded annually to a student-athlete that has shown incredible strength when faced with overwhelming circumstances. The award honors a person that perseveres, gives hope, and inspires others to be courageous. The presentation included a video of Ryan's story that was directed and produced by sophomore women's soccer player and Biomedical Engineering Major, Andrea Gomez-Carrillo.
