The Wright State volleyball team, fresh off a 2-1 start at the West Virginia Invitational, will play in the Comfort-Innvitational in Morehead, KY this weekend. The Raiders will take on Mercer and Saint Francis Friday afternoon and the host Morehead State on Saturday. Saturday's match will be shown live through Morehead State's website.
Wright State
The Raiders came away with wins over Georgia Southern and West Virginia at the West Virginia Invitational last weekend. Teddie Sauer was named the tournament MVP while Abby Barcus was selected to the all-tournament team. It was WSU's first win over a Power Five team since 2006 and is the program's best start since 2015 when they went 3-0.Â
Mercer
The Bears are currently 2-2 with wins over Lamar and North Florida in the Jacksonville State Invitational last weekend. The Bears were picked seventh in the Southern Conference preseason poll with middle blocker Paige Alstin selected to the eight-person preseason team. The Raiders and the Bears have never met on the volleyball court.
Saint Francis
The Red Flash is currently 0-4 after losing four at the Eastern Illinois Tournament last weekend. Madi Tyus was named to the all-tournament team and Rookie of the Week for the NEC after she put up three double-doubles in four matches over the opening weekend of the season. Tyus had weekend highs of 20 digs vs Eastern Illinois and 17 kills vs Fresno State and averaged 12 kills and nearly 15 digs per match. Saint Francis was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll of the Northeast Conference. WSU has won both previous meetings with the Flash.
Morehead State
The Eagles are 3-1 after winning their opening-weekend home tournament against St. Francis (NY), Bradley and Hampton, and dropping a non-conference match at Marshall. After averaging 2.33 blocks per set in the season's opening weekend, senior middle blocker Maddie Fella was named a VolleyMob award winner for her opening weekend performance. Lauren Rokey was named to the Ohio Valley Conference preseason team as the Eagles were picked to finish sixth. WSU leads the all-time series 12-6.
