Bowling Green, OH - The Wright State men's soccer team was in action Friday night in the I-75 Cup against the Bowling Green Falcons, and the Raiders earned a scoreless draw after 110 minutes of play. Wright State moves its record to 2-0-1, while Bowling Green goes to 0-2-1.Â
First Half
The first 45 minutes of play were very evenly balanced in terms of possession, with both teams mounting a good share of attacking play. While the Falcons got credit for 8 shots in the opening half, several of those shots were blocked immediately, and only two were on goal. Tate Robertson was all over the field in the first half for the Falcons, and led all first half shooters with two. Deri Corfe had quite the offensive presence for the Raiders in the first frame, and registered the Raiders' only shot on goal in the first half. All things considered, the teams entered the locker room at halftime still scoreless.
Second Half
The second half took a much different shape than the first, as both teams seemed quite content to play for possession rather than attack. While both sides managed to attempt five shots in the second frame, each team only had one legitimate scoring opportunity in half number two, both turned away by the respective goalkeepers. After 90 minutes of play, the game remained knotted at zero,
Overtime
Both overtime periods took the shape of the second half, without many legitimate chances for either side. Joel Sundell made six saves in the match to help Wright State earn a scoreless draw in the match.
Next Up
The Raiders will be in action again when they travel to Cincinnati for a Labor Day clash with the Bearcats on Monday. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm, and can be seen live on UCTV through the link from the men's soccer schedule page. Â
