Overview
The Wright State men's soccer team will look to continue its winning ways this weekend, when it travels north to Bowling Green to battle for the I-75 Cup on Friday, and south to Cincinnati for a Labor Day clash on Monday. "We're asking a lot of the guys at this point of the season," said head coach Jake Slemker. "With classes starting, and four matches in eight days, we're just trying to keep our guys focused and energized, and they are handling it tremendously."
Raider Round-Up
After back-to-back 3-2 victories to open the season, the Raiders will put their perfect record (2-0-0) on the line at Bowling Green Friday. The Raiders pulled off a thrilling victory Monday against Purdue Fort Wayne, scoring two goals in the final 12 minutes of the match to secure their second victory. Junior forward Alec Philippe tallied the match-winning goal in the 85th minute after fellow junior Stefan Rokvic netted the team's first two goals earlier in the second half. Philippe and Rokvic share the team lead with two goals apiece early in the campaign, while freshman midfielder Deri Corfe leads all Raiders with six total shots, three of which have been on frame. Senior Dan Bent has played all 180 minutes bolstering the Raider defense this season, while junior keeper Joel Sundell has posted a .500 save percentage in his two starts.
Bowling Green
The Falcons (0-2-0) will enter the I-75 Cup Friday night looking for their first win of the young campaign, after consecutive one-goal losses to Northern Kentucky and Penn State. BGSU is averaging 11.5 shots in its first two contests, while limiting its opponents to an average of 7.5 shots. Senior Ebenezer Ackon leads the Falcons in scoring with two goals and four points, while fellow senior Tate Robertson has assisted on both of Ackon's goals. Junior keeper Anthony Mwembia has played both matches in net, posting a .500 save percentage on eight shots on goal.
Cincinnati
The Bearcats (0-2-0) will face Horizon League-foe Cleveland State Friday before returning home to host the Raiders on Monday. Cincinnati has been blanked twice at home to start the season, falling to Northern Illinois 1-0 in overtime and Eastern Illinois 2-0 at Gettler Stadium where Monday's match will occur. Redshirt junior midfielder Ryan Melink leads all Bearcats with five shots, two of which have been on frame. Senior Peyton Mowery provides the leadership for the Bearcats back line, playing all 184 minutes of the season thus far. Sophomore goalkeeper Noah Lawrence has posted a .571 save percentage in two matches.
