The Wright State volleyball team raised its season record to 3-1 after defeating Mercer in the first match of the Comfort Inn-vitational at Morehead State Friday afternoon by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 26-24. Mercer dropped to 2-3.

Sophomore Abby Barcus led the way with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .429 while Celia Powers collected eight kills, hitting .389. Teddie Sauer, last week's MVP, had seven kills. Freshman Lainey Stephenson had a team-highs of 25 assists and 12 digs. Sauer posted five total blocks.

First Set
The Raiders took a 3-2 lead and didn't look back, topping the Bears 25-18. WSU hit .219 on 12 kills with Barcus at .545 with six kills. Stephenson had six assists and four digs to lead Wright State.

Second Set
Wright won the second set 25-23 after coming back as they were down 21-20. Powers picked up five kills while the team posted 15 kills with a .205 hitting percentage. Stephenson added 11 assists with four digs as Taylor Gibson and Grace Hauck had two block assists each.

Third Set
The Raiders led 12-10 but the Bears came back to lead 23-22 before WSU won 26-24. Sauer had three of WSU's 11 kills while Stephenson had eight more assists and four digs. Gilbson posted a service ace late to give the Raiders the lead.

Next Up
The Raiders will play Saint Francis at 4:30 pm Friday.
