The Wright State men's soccer team returned to action Saturday afternoon, when they continued Horizon League play by hosting the Cleveland State Vikings. Looking to continue their unbeaten season, the Raiders played a dominating match, and came away with the 4-1 victory.
First Half
The Raiders set the tone for the match from the very beginning, with relentless pressure from the opening kick-off. A skillful ball from Jackson Dietrich was beautifully headed into the net by Alec Philippe in the 11th minute. Philippe was just getting warmed up, however, as just 11 minutes after his match opening goal, he found himself on the scoreboard once again, giving the Raiders a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Senior midfielder Eric Hutton picked up a loose ball in the Vikings box in the 28th minute, and chipped the ball over Cleveland State keeper Nicklas Rulle to net his first goal of the season, and to give the Raiders the 3-0 advantage in the match. Philippe wasn't done however, as an excellent through ball from Jackson Dietrich in the 33rd minute sprung Philippe free, and Alec easily tucked it past Rulle to earn the hat trick and give the Raiders a commanding 4-0 lead. Rulle was pulled from the net shortly after Philippe's third goal, in favor of Alex Gyerman. Gyerman suffered an injury late in the first half on a collision in the box, so Rulle returned in his stead. The Raiders would carry their 4-0 lead in to the locker room at half.

Second Half
While the Vikings attempted to mount an offensive in half number two, the Raiders did an excellent job pinning Cleveland State in their own defensive zone, and out of the dangerous areas in the middle of the pitch. While the Vikings managed 17 shots in the match, only six of those were on target, and five of those six were turned away by Joel Sundell. A messy play in the Raiders box in the 65th minute allowed the ball to fall on the foot of Cleveland State's Ben Hryszko, who tucked home the Vikings' only goal of the match. Wright State dictated the tempo of the match entirely, and finished with a 8-6 edge in shots on goal.

The Raiders will finish off their three-match home-stand on Tuesday when the Duquesne Dukes come to Alumni Field. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm, and can be seen on ESPN+.
