#15 @WSU_Mens_Soccer Looks to Continue Unbeaten Season This Week
9/25/2018 4:48:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The 15th ranked Wright State men's soccer team (6-0-1, 2-0 Horizon League) returns to action after just two days off, as the Duquesne Dukes (2-4-1) travel to Alumni Field for a Tuesday evening tilt. The Raiders will round out the week with a return to Horizon League play when they travel to Detroit Mercy (1-7, 0-3 Horizon) on Saturday.
Raider Round-Up
The Raiders made a monumental leap in the Top Drawer Soccer national rankings this past week after Saturday's 4-1 triumph over Cleveland State, jumping from 25th to 15th. Alec Philippe's first period hat-trick, along with Eric Hutton's first tally of the season provided all the offense the Raiders would need Saturday, maintaining their unbeaten overall record and moving into second in the Horizon League behind only UIC (7-2, 3-0 Horizon League). Philippe's performance in Saturday's match also earned him Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Horizon League. The combination of Jackson Dietrich and Philippe up front has been deadly to the opposition, with Dietrich racking up seven assists on the young season, and Philippe leading the Raiders with six goals. Joel Sundell continues to be a stalwart in net for Wright State, surrendering just a 1.08 GAA and recording a .733 save percentage.
Scouting Duquesne
The biggest problem facing Duquesne this season is lack of offense, scoring just nine goals in their first seven matches. Defensively, the Dukes have been just as defensively sound as the Raiders, allowing the same number of goals against (eight) in the same number of matches (seven). Freshmen Rob Dymond and Manel Busquets lead the Dukes on offense, both with seven points on the young season. Duquesne has already faced three Horizon League opponents this season, beating Detroit Mercy and falling to Northern Kentucky and Oakland.
Scouting Detroit Mercy
When the Raiders return to the road Saturday, they will face a Detroit Mercy team who is struggling to find their rhythm on offense, scoring just two goals through eight matches on the season. The Titans have also allowed twelve goals in those eight matches. In their three Horizon League matches, the Titans are goalless and average almost two goals surrendered in those contests.
Coverage
Tuesday's match against Duquesne will take place at Alumni Field at 7:00 pm, and will be carried on ESPN+. Saturday's road contest at Detroit Mercy will also be carried by ESPN+, and will kick-off at 2:00 pm.
