Coming off their first Horizon League win, the Wright State volleyball team continue conference play with a match at Youngstown State Friday at 6 pm and at Cleveland State Saturday at 4 pm. Friday night will be shown live on ESPN+ while both matches can be followed through live stats (YSU CSU).
Wright State
The Raiders are currently 9-5, 1-1 after defeating UIC 3-1 Saturday afternoon. Teddie Sauer led the way as she hit .395 with 17 kills, one shy of her career high. She also posted six important service aces in the win and sits atop the Horizon League with 0.43 per set. WSU is leading the HL in service 90 through 54 sets for an average of 1.67 per set. Sauer and Alannah Lemming are eight and nine in hitting percentage. Freshman setter Lainey Stephenson ranks fourth overall in assists at 8.15 as does Celia Powers in blocks at 1.04. Wright State leads the series with the Penguins 35-11 but trails the Vikings 36-32.
Youngstown State
The Penguins are 6-9, 0-2 after losing last weekend to Cleveland State and Oakland. Youngstown State begins the home portion of its schedule having won six of its first 15 matches. The Penguins will be looking to snap a six-match losing skid that continued with consecutive 3-0 losses to Cleveland State and Oakland last weekend to begin Horizon League play. YSU won its first three matches of the campaign and was 5-2 after impressive wins over UNLV and Duquesne at the Duquesne Invitational on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. YSU ranks seventh in the country with 18.23 digs per set, which is 3.59 more than it averaged in 2017. The Penguins are also fifth in the nation in attacks per set with 39.63. Aleah Hughes is one of two players in the Horizon League to rank in the top 10 in the conference in both kills and digs per set. Margaux Thompson is third in the league with 3.16 kills per set.
Cleveland State
Entering the weekend, Cleveland State stands at 8-6 overall this season and 2-0 in league action - tied for first place in the league standings with Northern Kentucky. Last month, the Vikings were selected to repeat as Horizon League Champions, as they were tabbed the Horizon League Preseason favorite. After averaging 7.50 digs per set during the opening weekend of Horizon League play, senior libero Rachael Dohar was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Dohar recorded 27 digs against Youngstown State and followed that up with 18 digs at Oakland. Dohar was a main part of the Viking defense that held YSU and Oakland to a .138 combined hitting percentage last weekend, while she currently leads the league with her 7.50 digs per set in league matches only. Trinniti Hall was named the Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Vikings with 25 total kills against YSU and Oakland. Hall, who has a team-best 143 total kills this year, recorded nine kills against YSU and a team-best 16 kills at Oakland. Hall's 16 kills at Oakland came on a .519 hitting percentage (16-2-27), while she currently ranks eighth in the league averaging 2.80 kills per set this season.
