The Wright State volleyball team went on the road and defeated Cleveland State on Wednesday night in a five-set battle, winning the second, third and fifth sets. The Raiders will be back and home on Friday night inside McLin Gym at 6 p.m. for Senior Night against UIC.
On Wednesday, Wright State racked up 72 kills, led by 
Nyssa Baker, 
Taylor Gibson and 
Megan Alders who all contributed 14 kills. Baker only committed two errors off 31 attempts, which made for a .387 hitting percentage. 
Celia Powers knocked down 12 kills and 
Teddie Sauer added ten to kill column. Powers' performance made for a double-double in kills and digs as she contributed 12 for each category. The Raiders defense tallied 86 digs for the match, led by 
Jenna Story who had the match-high 39 digs. 
Lainey Stephenson picked up 12 digs, and 
Hannah Colvin added nine. 
 
Set 1
Wright State was slow to start the first set and trailed 7-2. The Raiders added a few points to shorten their deficit at 8-4 before Sauer and Gibson knocked down kills to shorten Wright State's deficit to three points at 11-8. Baker knocked down a kill for Raiders to reach 10 points, down by four points to the Vikings. The Raiders were down 19-15 after Sauer and Stephenson knocked down kills. Baker added a kill and Powers followed with two kills back-to-back to cut Wright State's deficit to one point at 21-22, but Cleveland State went on to win the set 23-25.
 
Set 2
The Raiders started the set scoring the first two points from kills by Sauer and Baker. Wright State led the Vikings by seven points after going on a five-point run to reach 10-3. After a long back and forth rally, Alders finished it and knocked down a kill. The Vikings could not stop the Raiders from going on runs of points as the host got down by six points at 12-6. Baker knocked down a kill for Wright State to reach 15 points. Alders powered down a kill for the Raiders to reach the red zone, followed by Story's ace which made the score 21-9. Alders added the last kill for Wright State to reach set point, a service error from the Vikings give the Raiders a 25-11 win.
 
Set 3
The teams battled back and forth early as the score was tied at 6-6. Story served an ace and then Powers followed with a kill to extend the Raiders lead to 9-6. Cleveland State made a comeback to tie the score at 11-11. The Vikings took the lead at 13-11 after a six-point run. 
Grace Hauck added her first kill of the match to stop Cleveland State's run of points and Gibson knocked down a kill to shorten the Raider deficit to one point at 14-13. 
Callie Martin served an ace and Hauck added another kill to tie the score at 15-15. Wright State put up a big block to take the lead by one point at 18-17. Stephenson knocked down a kill for the Raiders to reach the red zone and Powers served an ace for Wright State to get to set point, 24-19. Wright State won the set 25-19.
 
Set 4
The two teams battled back and forth and Wright State took the lead at 8-4. Alders powered down a kill for Wright State to reach 10 points before the Vikings earned a few points to tried and make up the deficit but trailed by three at 13-10. Powers added a kill for the Raiders to reach 15 points leading by five. Cleveland State made a seven-point comeback to take the lead at 20-18 and then went on to reach set point with the Raiders trailing by one. Powers marked a kill to hold back Cleveland State's win, the score tied at 24-24. The Vikings answered with a kill to make their second attempts at set point and went on to win the set 26-24.
Set 5
The points went back and forth until the score tied at 5-5. The Raiders went on a three-point run to mark an 8-5 lead and Alders knocked down a kill for Wright State to reach 10 points. The Vikings tried to shorten their deficit, but trailed by five points as the score reached 13-8. Baker knocked down a kill for the Raiders to reach match point at 14-9. After a block from Baker and Gibson, Wright State won the final set 15-9.
