The Wright State softball team (4-5) will look to build on their wins against Valparaiso and Delaware State this weekend at the Liberty Invitational.
Madison Nunez starred in the Valparaiso victory, hitting a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate which included three doubles and a pair of RBIs. As a team, the Raiders had their best offensive performance, scoring 11 runs on 14 hits, eight of which were for extra bases. Nunez was named the Horizon League Player of the Week. The LaGrange, OH native was a key piece in back-to-back wins for Wright State at the Liberty Invitational. Nunez finished the tournament 7 for 13 (.538) and put together an amazing performance on Sunday against Valpar
Madison Whitaker homered in that game and hit another homer to win the game against Delaware State. Whitaker leads the team in batting average (.444) and RBI (10) and Nunez has hit .417 with six doubles. Olivia Otani has impressed in the circle, closing out the Liberty Invitational by pitching the final 10.1 innings for the Raiders. The freshman leads Wright State in ERA (2.84) and innings pitched (24.2) and holds a 2-2 record.
This weekend, Wright State will face Mercer twice, along with the host team Gardner-Webb, South Carolina State, and Maryland Eastern-Shore. The Raiders begin the tournament against Mercer on Friday at 10:00 AM.
