In their first match of the day, the Wright State women's tennis team dropped close match to the league favorite UIC Flames at home. The Raiders' record moves to 10-11 on the season and 2-1 in Horizon League play. The Flames remain a perfect 4-0 in the conference.Â
The Raiders started off the morning one point down against the Flames after failing to capture the doubles points. On Court One, Madison Riley and Haily Morgan fell in a close 7-6 match against Lejla Colic and Lucie Prochazkova. Riley and Morgan moves to 10-6 this spring in doubles play. Grace Whitney and Luisa Pelayo fell 7-5 on Court Two to Rachel Le Comber and Karyna Bihel, the loss sets their spring record at 10-4. On Court Three, Andreea Craciun and Jillian Milano took down Georgie Sanders and Viktoria Seifert 7-5 and their spring record now stands at 10-5.Â
Moving to singles competition, Haily Morgan beat Karyna Bihel in three sets by scores of 6-2, 0-6, and 7-6. On Court Four, Madison Riley downed Georgie Sanders 6-3 and 6-3 in straight sets to improve her record to 9-6 in singles play.
Rounding out the Raiders' lineup, Grace Whitney felled Nell Arendt in three sets by scores of 7-5, 4-6, and 6-3. Before her loss to Whitney, Arendt had won nine-straight singles victories and held a 9-1 singles record.Â
The three singles wins for the Raiders ended up being too little as the Flames kept pace to squeak out the victory against Wright State.Â
