The Wright State Raiders softball team (6-7) prepares to take on Middle Tennessee (11-11) in a doubleheader matchup from Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Wednesday. The first pitch for game one has been moved to 2:00 PM ET, in anticipation of cold weather. The Raiders wrapped up the Gardner-Webb tournament with victories over South Carolina State and Maryland-Eastern Shore. Wright State won four of five games overall until their shutout loss at Gardner-Webb on Monday.
Several Raiders have put up impressive numbers 13 games into the season. Madison Whitaker leads the team in batting average (.410), home runs (3), and RBI (7). She ranks second in the horizon league for homers and first in RBI and slugging percentage (.744). Freshman Madison Nunez has started her career strong, batting .400 and hitting a league-leading six doubles. Rebekah Lenos turned in an impressive weekend at the Gardner-Webb tournament, and now boasts a .400 average along with four stolen bases. Meredith Keel and Jordyn Poulson share the league-best mark for stolen bases, each with six. Poulson has been a perfect six for six in attempts so far.
On the mound, Olivia Otani has handled the majority of the pitching for the Raiders, throwing 35.1 innings with an impressive 2.77 ERA, 4th best in the Horizon League. Makenna Durieux has also provided 29.1 innings of work, recording a team best 20 strikeouts over those innings.Â
Middle Tennessee returns from the USF-Clearwater Parks & Recreation Invitational after a 4-2 record in the event. The Blue Raiders defeated Bethune-Cookman in 10 innings with a complete game performance from freshman Corrina Dodd and narrowly lost to #13 South Carolina. The Blue Raiders won the only previous matchup against Wright State 9-0.
