Wright State (6-11) couldn't steal a win at the Bailey Memorial Tournament at Kennesaw State on Friday. The Raiders will look to snap their five-game losing streak on Saturday against Saint Louis.
Game 1
Wright State faced the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky who entered the game with an impressive 13-2 record. The Raiders struck first in the second, where Lauren Deitrick got plunked, Madison Hutchinson drew a walk, Madison Hartman bunted for a single, and Rebekah Lenos drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded. After Western Kentucky responded with their own run in the third, the Raiders took their second lead of the game in the fourth. Macy McCall took a four-pitch walk and advanced into scoring position where Meredith Keel smacked a double into center to score McCall. Unfortunately, that's where the lead ended for Wright State. Olivia Otani had the advantage in the circle until the Hilltopper offense came alive in the fifth inning. Western Kentucky scored four runs in the frame on three hits and never looked back. McCall hit an RBI single in the next inning, but WKU added an insurance run and stopped any hope of a Raider comeback. Hilltopper starter Kennedy Sulivan improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season, while Olivia Otani got credit for the loss (3-5).
Game 2
For the fourth time in five games, the Raiders couldn't muster a run. The Kennesaw State Owls, hosts of the Bailey Memorial Tournament closed out a 4-0 victory where Hailey Andrews dominated. She hurled a complete game shutout and only allowed hits by Madison Hartman and Lauren Deitrick. Wright State was frustrated at the plate, striking out ten times. Makenna Durieux pitched a complete game for the Raiders, reach 41.1 IP on the season.
