Tim Finke, a 6-6, 215-pound guard at Grand Canyon, has decided to transfer to Wright State and play basketball for the Raiders, WSU head coach Scott Nagy announced Thursday.
Finke, who just finished his freshman season, will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the upcoming year.
He played in all 34 games, including three starts for the Lopes last year as he averaged 3.5 points and 2.9 rebounds as a freshman. The Champaign, IL native scored a career-high 14 points against Utah in the Wooden Classic last season, draining a career-high four three-pointers.Â
"Tim is a big guard who can play multiple positions," Nagy said. "He enters our program with a good amount of college basketball experience. With another year of skill development and time in the weight room, we think he will have a major impact on our program, not only as a player but as a person."
Finke completed an impressive high school career at Champaign Central in 2017-18 as the all-time leading scorer in Champaign-Urbana history with 2,015 points. He guided the Maroons to a 3A Illinois Regional Title in all three seasons at the school playing for his father, Jeff Finke. Finke was named The News-Gazette All-Area Player of the year his senior campaign.
Finke will join Northwestern Grad Transfer Jordan Ash and other newcomers who signed in the early signing period: Trey Calvin from St Viator High School (IL), Andre Harris from Charles F. Brush High School (OH) and Tanner Holden from Wheelersburg High School (OH). Â Wright State won the Horizon League regular season in 2019, advancing to the school's first National Invitation Tournament (NIT) with a record of 21-14, 13-5. Coach Nagy was tabbed the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
