The American Baseball Coaches Association announced its All-Region teams on Wednesday, and three Raiders baseball players have found themselves on Mideast All-Region Teams. Freshman Tyler Black was named to the second team All-Region after a breakout freshman season. Juniors Seth Gray and Peyton Burdick were honored as first team All-Mideast Region after each of their best seasons at Wright State.
Â
Tyler Black batted a jaw-dropping .353 in his 52 games played this season, which included starting 44 games. Black's five triples were one behind team leading Seth Gray who had six, and Black added seven home runs on the campaign. Tyler drove in 41 runs on the season, and struck out only 18 times in almost 200 at bats. He also scored 46 runs of his own and added 11 doubles, bringing his slugging percentage to an even .600. Black was also named to the Horizon League Baseball All-Tournament Team for his performance in the league tournament., as well as First Team All-League for his regular season performance.
Â
Seth Gray helped pace the Raider offense throughout the 2019 season, batting .351 and was second on the team in home runs with 11. With six triples and 13 doubles on the season, Gray's slugging percentage was an impressive .630. Gray started all 59 games for Wright State on the season, amassing 73 hits in 203 at bats, while driving in 70 runs. He was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team, All-League First Team, and was drafted in the fourth round of the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins on June 4th.
Â
Peyton Burdick is arguably one of the most decorated players in Wright State baseball history, and he had his best statistical season as a Raider in 2019, batting an astonishing .407 in over 200 at bats, and slugging 15 home runs on the year. Burdick led the Horizon League in every major offensive category throughout the season, making him the undisputed Horizon League Player of the Year at season's end. His 72 runs batted in is tied for the third-most ever recorded in a single season at Wright State, most recently done by Gabe Snyder in 2018. Burdick was also one home run shy of tying the all-time record of 16. After being named to the Horizon League All-Tournament team, Burdick was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins on June 4th.
