Wright State finishes the weekend 2-0 in Horizon

The Wright State volleyball team ran its winning streak to 13 games and closed the first weekend of Horizon League play with a 3-0 sweep of Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon. After sweeps over Oakland on Friday night and Youngstown State on Saturday, the Raiders start HL play with a 2-0 record and run their overall record 13-1.Â

The Raiders finished Saturday's match with 38 kills and .277 hitting percentage. Celia Powers and Teddie Sauer each tallied nine kills, while Taylor Gibson and Megan Alders followed with six kills apiece. Lainey Stephenson tallied 32 assists and picked up five digs while Jenna Story led the match with 22 digs - half of the teams' 44 total digs.

Set 1
Neither team could gain an early advantage as they traded points before Powers knocked down a kill for the Raiders to reach 10 points, but Youngstown went on a run of points for a three-point advantage. A kill from Gibson and an ace added from Sauer helped the Raiders tie the set at 16 points. The Penguins reached 20 points first as the Raiders trailed by two points. Sauer tallied a kill to tie the score at 21-21 before a block and a kill from Alders gave Wright State a two-point lead. A kill from Powers pushed the Raiders match point and an error from Youngstown ended the set at 25-22.

The points went back and forth until Sauer smashed a kill to give the Raiders the lead at 7-6. The two teams went kill for kill until Wright State went on a run of points to lead 16-11. Youngstown went on a run of its own to fight back, shortening their deficit to two points at 22-20. Powers knocked down a kill for set point and the Raiders won 25-22.

Sauer went on an early five-point serving run to give the Raiders a 7-2 advantage. Wright State held a strong lead as the offense made consistent contributions. Powers knocked down point 20 for the Raiders before she went back to serve and served through the red zone and Alders knocked down a kill for match point. Gibson ended the match with a kill and a 25-14 set win to close the match.
