Raiders defeat UIC in opening round of HL Tournament

The No. 3 seeded Wright State women's basketball team is headed to the second round of the Horizon League Tournament after defeating the No. 10 seed UIC 83-47 inside the Nutter Center Tuesday evening.
With the victory, Wright State improved to 19-11 overall and will host the No. 6 seed Cleveland State Thursday evening inside the Nutter Center. Tickets for Thursday night's contest will go on sale Wednesday morning.
It was a tale of two halves Tuesday night, as the Raiders outscored UIC by just five points at the end of both the first and second quarters. Wright State headed into the locker room up by 10, their largest lead of the first half. Wright State held UIC to just 21 points in the second half, while they went on to score 47 and out score the Flames 27-9 in the final 10 minutes.
Eleven of the 13 Raiders that saw action made their mark on the scorebook with three tallying double figure nights, led by Michal Miller's 16 points. Redshirt freshman Shamarre Hale added 12 points for the Raiders, finishing the contest 4-for-5 from the field and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. Angel Baker rounded out the double-figure scoring for Wright State adding 10 points to the score line.
Wright State finished the contest shooting 39.7 percent from the field (29-for-73) and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc (6-for-16), while UIC shot 32.1 percent from the field (17-for-53).
The Raiders went to the free throw line 25 times, connecting on 19 such opportunities (76 percent), while the Flames had just 15 such opportunities, but tallied 12 points (80 percent).
Wright State's bench tallied 39 points to UIC's 18 and recorded 34 points in the paint. The Raiders held the Flames to just single digits in both points off turnovers (6) and second chance points (8) while, Wright State went on to score 20 points off turnovers and 28 second chance points.  Â
Wright State recorded an advantage on the glass, out rebounding UIC 50-36, but the Flames fought on the defensive side of things tallying 26 rebounds to the Raiders' 27. Meanwhile, on the offensive side of things, Wright State pulled down 23 rebounds to the Flames' 10.
