The Wright State Track and Field team opens its 2021 indoor season on Saturday at the Mastodon Invitational, hosted by Purdue-Fort Wayne inside the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Along with facing the newest member of the Horizon League, the Raiders will also compete against three current Horizon League teams – Oakland, IUPUI, and Cleveland State.
The Mastodon invitational is a closed meet, therefore fans are not permitted to attend but fans can watch the meet on ESPN3. Â
Wright State welcomes back a number of key returners including senior Shelby Nolan, juniors Abigail Halsey, Lauren Shuman, Bekah Robertson and Jayla Tarver. Â
During the 2019 indoor season, Nolan, ran a personal best 1,000 meter with a time of 3:08.04 and a personal best mile of 5:11.21 to finish third at the Ball State Tune-up. She also ran personal best 3,000 meter of 10:10.7 at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships. Halsey, tallied three personal bests during the shortened 2020 indoor season, including a personal best mile of 5:15.05 at Ball State Tune-Up, notching her name in the mile, 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter runs. Shuman, entered the new marks on the listings for the mile, 800 meter and 3,000 meter runs during the 2020 indoor season before COVID-19 shutdown the remainder of the season.
Tarver returns for the Raiders after setting two season highs last season, in both the 60 (8.32) and 200 (25.56) meter runs. Junior Bekah Roberston pulls on the Wright State uniform for the first time since 2017-18, after spending the last 18-months on a mission trip. The West Chester native, placed sixth in the 2018 HL Indoor Track & Field Championships for the 800-meter pentathlon while also tallying fourth place finishes in both the 60-meter hurdles and long jump.
